Headlands Research at SCOPE 2025: Advancing Clinical Trial Innovation

Earlier this month, Headlands Research attended the 16th annual Summit for Clinical Ops Executives, or SCOPE, in Orlando, Florida. A pivotal event for our industry, SCOPE attracts over 4,500 attendees from 31 countries to network and collaborate on clinical trial innovation, planning, management, and operations.

SCOPE brings together industry leaders to discuss the latest advancements in clinical trial operations. With over 30 clinical research locations across North America working together under one umbrella, Headlands Research knows how critical industry collaboration is to driving innovation, advancing new treatments, and improving patient outcomes. That’s why events like this are close to our hearts.

Engaging in Meaningful Conversations

At SCOPE 2025, we connected with our strategic industry partners and participated in discussions on critical topics, including patient recruitment and retention, decentralized trials, and leveraging technology to enhance trial efficiency.

Our Chief Business Development Officer, Lauren Chazal, moderated the panel “Integrating Diversity into Clinical Trial Feasibility & Site Engagement.” Panelists included:

  • Gary Cobb, Head, Diversity & Inclusion in Clinical Trials, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
  • Asma Kasuba, Senior Director, R&D Data Science Global Development, Johnson and Johnson Innovative Medicine
  • Kendal Whitlock, Head, Digital Optimization, RWE Clinical Trials, Walgreens Boots Alliance

These experts in patient diversity, research and development, and digital optimization joined Lauren to discuss the importance of embedding diversity into feasibility studies. By using technology and data-driven methodologies, we can make trials more efficient, patient-centered, and inclusive.

Lauren then switched roles and was a panelist on “What Sites Really Want from Study Sponsors and CROs.” She joined:

  • Moderator Norman M. Goldfarb, Executive Director, Site Council
  • Sergio Garcia, Director, Clinical Research Business, Hackensack Meridian Health
  • Troy Hamilton, Director of Operations, CaRe Clinic

Effective collaboration improves clinical trial outcomes, but the relationship between sites and sponsors isn’t always straightforward. The discussion focused on improving site-sponsor collaboration by understanding precisely what sites need.
